The Issue
With 1 in 5 kids in Vancouver going to school hungry every day, food insecurity remains a heartbreaking reality for far too many children. In response, Vancouver Firefighter Charities (VFC) is joining forces with Glowbal Restaurant Group to provide thousands of fresh meals for hungry kids this school year.

What We’re Doing
The VFC already works hard to deliver support to food-insecure youth through our Snacks For Kids program. Currently Snacks For Kids provides daily nutritional support to 12,000 hungry kids across 103 schools and after-school programs in Vancouver. Glowbal Restaurant Group’s School Meals For Kids initiative adds another stream of support, helping ensure more children have their basic nutritional needs met.

How It Works
Each month during the school year, one Glowbal Restaurant Group restaurant will prepare 250 fresh, nutritious meals. Off-duty Vancouver Firefighters then volunteer their time to deliver these meals directly to schools where the need is greatest. Once delivered, Vancouver School Board staff distribute the meals discreetly, protecting children’s dignity and ensuring support is going to those who need it most.

Why It Matters
A hungry child cannot learn. Without proper nutrition, children face chronic health risks, impaired cognitive development, and a loss of self-worth. Together, Snacks For Kids and Glowbal’s School Meals For Kids aims to level the playing field, giving children the energy to learn, build confidence and ultimately thrive
