Program Overview
Fueling Healthy Futures Through Sports
Sports For Kids is a Vancouver Firefighter Charities initiative that removes barriers to sport and physical activity for youth. Through grants and partnerships, we support local organizations and schools that provide inclusive opportunities for children and young adults facing physical, cognitive, or financial challenges to get active and thrive.
One school especially close to the hearts of Vancouver firefighters is Streetfront Alternative. Serving students in Grades 8 to 10, Streetfront provides a new educational environment for at-risk youth. Their approach emphasizes physical activity and outdoor experiences, helping students build resilience, confidence and empowering them to achieve more than they ever thought was possible.
Why it Matters
Removing Barriers To Get Kids Active
Sports For Kids empowers vulnerable youth to overcome barriers, discover their potential, and thrive through the life-changing impact of sport.
Breaks Down Barriers
Too many kids face financial or social obstacles to sports; we remove those barriers so more children have the opportunity to participate.
Builds Health
Physical activity reduces risks of obesity, chronic illness, and mental health struggles, setting kids up for stronger futures.
Foster Confidence
Sport teaches resilience, teamwork, and self-belief, helping youth see themselves as capable of more than they imagined.
Strengthens Community
From resurfaced basketball courts to marathon training, Vancouver Firefighters create safe spaces where kids can connect, have fun, and be active.
Improved Education Outcomes
Active students are more engaged, their attendance is better, more focused, and more likely to graduate high school.
Ongoing Impact
Sports For Kids aims to create a community of children who are healthier, more confident and strive to achieve their fullest potential.
